The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society’s Visiting Nurse Program provides free health education, medical assessments and support for active-duty and retired Navy and Marine Corps families across the country. 

Led by registered nurses, the initiative takes a medical approach to postpartum transitions by conducting home visits, checking infant development, monitoring parent recovery and screening for perinatal mood disorders. 

Last year, the three visiting nurses serving the Hampton Roads region conducted 1,637 patient contacts and hosted dozens of breastfeeding classes for military members and their dependents.

Flooding inside the historic Wells Theatre in downtown Norfolk severely impacted the Virginia Stage Co. after hundreds of thousands of gallons of rainwater pooled on a lower roof section and broke through into the building over two separate storms. 

The city-owned theater suffered damage to its interior spaces, structure, equipment and the set for the upcoming production of "Come From Away," which is scheduled to open next week.

To help recover from the damage, VSC reached out for public support, drawing contributions from more than 250 donors in two days.
