Roughly 90 sailors aboard the Norfolk-based USS Kearsarge returned from a 10-day training exercise to find their vehicles towed from a Pier 14 fenced lot. 

The towing occurred after Naval Station Norfolk restricted parking to host a base concert in late August, placing barriers in designated areas and coordinating with ship security. 

However, crew members say they were never properly notified of the restrictions prior to their departure. Notably, one of the towed vehicles belonged to the ship's commanding officer.

This weekend, the Suffolk Public Library’s newly opened Downtown branch will host Shelf Bound Sound, the annual after-hours, all-ages music festival.

The free event features Norfolk electronic music DJ Karacell, alt blues-rock band No Agenda and Virginia Beach psych-rock group Berries. 

Organizers pitched the idea four years ago to showcase how modern libraries have evolved into vibrant, dynamic community hubs. 

Local acts view the library festival as a welcomed venue while traditional indie and DIY music spaces across Hampton Roads continue to close.
